POPE ST. PIUS X |
When our Diocese was established
in August 1956, Bishop Charles H. Helmsing was appointed our first Bishop.
Every Diocese has a Principal Patron Saint. Bishop Helmsing chose St.
Pius X as our Principal Patron Saint. St. Pius X was elected Pope in
1903 and ruled the Church until 1914. He tried in vain to prevent World
War I but could not. St. Pius X was a Pope who ruled the Church with
love and simplicity. He is probably remembered most for allowing children
who had reached the use of reasoning to receive Holy Communion instead
of having to wait until they were in their teens. |
